Bolts Bolster Young Core

The Bolts had a pretty disappointing end to their playoff run as they chocked a 4-1 lead with 6ish minutes left and lost 5-4 in regulation. Not even overtime. IN REGULATION. The Bolts have become the new chockers of the DHL and will have that label on them until they do something. To be able to do something, they’d need a true 1C. They had one developing in Jack Hughes, but something came up and the Bolts ended up dealing Hughes along with top goalie prospect Dustin Wolf for Quinton Byfield. While Hughes is already playing at the highest level, Byfield has so much potential it was hard to pass up.

This move was a big one to say the least, starting the offseason by trading one future 1C for another future 1C has its risks as one will end up being better than the other most likely. The Bolts still think that Hughes will be a 1C, but as said previously, Byfield’s potential is so high. The size, the speed, the skill, it’s all there. He’s just so raw that it’s about him maturing. The Bolts already had a ton of success this year with a top line of Couture – Horvat – Svechnikov. Now imagine in a few years time when the top line will be Kaprizov – Byfield – Svechnikov. It all depends on Byfield developing though. the Bolts will be patient though. With guys in/entering their prime like Horvat and Danault, they have the top 6 C’s locked down for a bit.
