Changes In Brooklyn

The Islanders started their offseason with a couple of franchise changing moves.

The first move they made was to bring in young centre, and former world junior gold medalist, Curtis Lazar, as well as veteran winger Lee Stempniak, in exchange for two first round picks, and $20,000,000.

Their next move was trading a first round pick in next years draft, and a second round pick in this years draft, in exchange for Senators prospect, Filip Chlapik.

The last move they’ve made, so far, was by far the biggest for the franchise this offseason.  The Islanders traded long time Islander, Blake Wheeler, to the Flyers in exchange for a first, second, and third round pick in the year 23 draft.  They also received veteran defensemen Braydon Coburn, veteran forward Benoit Pouliot, Blackhawks defender Trevor van Riemsdyk, and prospects Nikolai Prokhorkin, and Ryan Dzingel.

Some big moves in order to get a younger Islander core.  When talking with GM Jonny, he said, “we’re still looking to make moves, as long as they’re right for our organization.  We want to have a younger, competitive, core, but we want the right guys.  We’re definitely looking to make some moves, and we will move our skilled veteran players, if we get the right deal.”

Look for the Islanders to be very active in the next few weeks, and possibly spending some of that $25,000,000 that they currently have, around UFA.
