Montreal – Season 21

Opening up his pre-season press conference, the Montreal GM could not temper expectations any more after uttering 9 little words, “This season is going to be Mike Ricci ugly.”

Cameras flashed, questions were shouted and chaos ensued. However, soon enough order was restored and he expanded on his statement by rolling out the opening night roster:

Moulson – Colborne – Sceviour
Burakovsky – Lindholm – Nash
Raymond – Stajan – McDonald
Thompson – Richards – Farnham

Polak – Lovejoy
Larsson – Severson
Trotman – Bartley

Emery
Peters

He was telling the truth. This is going to be fugly but it is the price required when completing a total rebuild and given that the team has never benefited from an improved slot via the draft lottery with their own pick, this season they have downgraded everywhere in hopes on finally landing in the top-3 of the Year 22 draft before the influx of youth starts impacting the team.

Anticipated to make the jump in season 22 are Sam Reinhart, Max Domi, Anton Slepyshev and Alexei Marchenko. Soon after that the GM expects to add 2-3 prospects a year but would not comment on reports that prized prospects Pavel Buchenich and Kyle Connor are both rumoured to be committing to Montreal in the very near future.

Montreal does not anticipate being very active on the trade front this season as he is only actively listening on Polak, Lovejoy and Colborne and does not expect any of them to move until closer to the trade deadline.

All he did was close with the following words of advice, “Treat this season as if you were at a bar competing with all the other guys for the available women. Do you take your chances with those ladies who will have every guy’s attention or do you focus on the more attainable woman who are more realistic goals. So my friends, drink plenty and go home with that fat chick in the corner as for what she lacks in beauty, she more than makes up with enthusiasm.”
