Skinner Deal – Catalyst to Contention?

When I set the earth ablaze in Leafs Nation after season 18 I planned for my rebuild to last approximately two seasons. That time frame would be expedited should I land McDavid. Luckily, McJesus, with all his glory walked on water and landed in Toronto. So, now starts to slow process over the final half of the season. The Leafs will start to look for trades that should help their rebuild into the next two DHL seasons.

Last night, Toronto completed a trade that could potentially be a huge boost of offense into the top six. Jeff Skinner, an enigmatic player to say the least has had his fair share of bad luck. Concussions and offensive inconsistencies have plagued him in recent years and he’s never managed to replicate his rookie season stats. However, two seasons ago Skinner put up 33 goals and 21 assists. The gamble is whether he’ll be able to get back there. Personally, I think a lot of it has to do with a terrible Hurricane team and lack of minutes. What Skinner really needs is a trade out of Carolina.

Ultimately, Toronto will be looking to make more moves throughout the remainder of the season, with only 16 million in the bank, UFA will not be an avenue that the Leafs can use just yet.

Here’s how the potential future in Toronto Looks:

T. Teravianen – C. McDavid – T. Pulkkinen
