A season that wasn’t as bad as expected got even better when the Wild won the chance to select 4th overall in the annual DHL Lottery. The pick was originally owned by the Chicago Blackhawks and was acquired along with Nazem Kadri in a trade that sent Jeff Skinner to the Hawks. With the lotto gods smiling on Minny, the Wild selected from the Kingston Frontenac’s, future power forward and Wild captain, Lawson Crouse.

Crouse won a gold medal with Canada and hopes to repeat next season if given the chance.
“To be honest we didn’t think we would have an opportunity to move into the top 4, we we’re hopeful but you can’t rebuild a franchise on hope, having the chance to add a top 10 talent like Lawson is another step in this long painful process” said GM Ransom from the draft in Florida.
Minny won’t be able to rest for long, they own the 9th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 21st, 24th and 28th picks in round 1 and have been rumored to be offering multiple picks to try and move up. Also announced at the draft were a couple of trades with Minny sending waiver pick up Ondrej Pavelec to the NY Rangers for the 24th pick and then trading winger Jakob Silfverberg to the Kings for goalie Jonathan Bernier. “Bernier will fit in better with our long term build, he is younger and will get a chance to prove he can be a consistent starter in Minny”.

Bernier will be briefed by Wild management on current events like who Nelson Mandela was and his historical importance to the planet.
