Yr 19 Dallas Stars

The dust has settled in Dallas after a very up and down regular season followed by getting smoked in 4 games by St. Louis in the playoffs. I considered crying the blues and going for a quick rebuild like many teams, do to the extreme talent available over the next couple of drafts. However after taking a good look up and done this roster I decided that Dallas with their huge bank account, some nice prospects, and mostly RFA’s on the team, needed to make a push rather than pull. I decided to go all in and sacrifice some futures for the opportunity to compete for the mighty DHL cup.

The first move Dallas made was a small move where Visnovsky rights were traded for a handful of mostly bust prospects, but you never know. This move was followed up with a huge trade that had been rumored for some time. The Kings traded superstar Evgeni Malkin for a very good youngster in the making in Aleksander Barkov, the talented Patrick Hornqvist and 2.5 mil in funny money. This trade was a great fit for both teams, and I am really looking forward to see big Geno destroying it for his new team. At this pt I realized with a 40 million cap, improving this team wasn’t going to be easy. I thought once again about blowing it up, but was determined to find a way shed cap, while improving my team.

The first of many moves to shed and improve the team was by was trading the much loved Ryan Kesler for Matt Calvert, Nick Holder and prospects Petr Straka and Jujhar Khaira. Dallas took a loss here, but filled a few important holes in the roster and got a couple of decent prospects, while shedding some major coin. My next group of moves a combo of smalls moves and another big risky move, but all very important moves. Dallas brought in the tough skilled 3rd liner Bryan Bickell, rising stud in the making Matt Beleskey and decent backup James Reimer along with a little cash and change. On the outs were the over priced Mike Richards, and Dustin Penner, Chris Neil, and basically all my picks for the next 2 drafts. To round out the offseason the Stars signed in ÙFA a much needed goalie in Antti Niemi. After spending last season in the AHL, Scott Gomez looks of made the big club and will be our new 4th line C.

I am still looking at deals/UFA to improve the team, mainly on D but am also ok with waiting to see how the team gels. Either way I have left some cap room available for improvement.
