Montreal Changes Things Up

After coming painful close to getting to the finals, the Montreal Canadiens were very active this off-season hoping to make moves to help them over the hump in the next few seasons. After years of struggling the GM decided now was the time to make a push even though the defending champions will stand directly in the way of any aspirations that Montreal may have for a championship. Other contending teams from last season has re-tooled as well while some re-building clubs have made significant strides so even getting to the post-season could be a struggle. Regardless, the push was made through 8 trades that involved 8 players leaving with 6 players joining the team; 2 3rd round draft picks being shipped out but returning a future 1st round draft picks; a pending future consideration; 2 new prospects joining the team; and over $60M DHL bucks changing hands. The pot has been stirred but the jury’s out on the results of this mixture.

Free agency saw the team successfully bring back Brent Burns after dealing him several seasons ago and welcome Jeff Petry to the club in an to balance out the defense. The forwards were augmented by the addition of “The Little Ball of Hate” Brad Marchard along with Bryan Little. Jordan Staal was extended for another 4 seasons so the core for the foreseeable future is relatively set:

Heading into the season, our starting line-up projects to be:

Brad Marchard – Evgeny Kuznetsov – Patric Hornqvist
Ryan O’Reilly – Bo Horvat – Justin Williams
Kyle Connor – Jordan Staal – Zach Hyman
Daniel Carr – Colton Sceviour – Bryan Little

Brent Burns – Jeff Petry
Mikhail Sergachev – Tyler Myers
Josh Manson – TJ Brodie

Ben Bishop
Laurent Brossoit

As several players have multiple position eligibility, we may tinker with this line-up on a regular basis until we find the right combinations.
